Cybersecurity webinar: Their risk is our risk – Conversations with your Information Security folks

30 October 2024 | 3pm GMT | Online

Conversations can be hard to start, especially with Information Security team. They are the ones that are always saying “no”. This session will review a recent Scholarly Networks Security Initiative (SNSI) recent report that highlights the cybersecurity risks to scholarly publishing and will help you start a conversation with your IT Security team.

A good conversation is a well-balanced, reciprocal dialogue where both parties share and are interested in the other’s perspective. It requires a balance between simplicity and detail. This webinar will cover both the risk (simplicity) and detail (ways to reduce the risk).

Attendees will gain valuable insight from our guest speakers – a former higher education chief information security officer (CISO) and a director of content protection on these areas:

  • Fostering a culture of cybersecurity awareness
  • How to strengthen Identity and Access Management (IAM) practices
  • Promoting and supporting research on cybersecurity in higher education
  • Enhancing collaboration

Speakers:

  • Sari Frances, director of content protection services, Elsevier
  • Brian Kelly, director of information security, Community Health Network of Connecticut

Webinar: UX in the US – Bridging the Gap Between Students and Resources

OpenAthens and Technology from Sage webinar

11 July 2024 | 3pm BST | Online | On-demand

How can researchers do their best work when they’re unable to get online? How can academic libraries meet the evolving needs of students in the 21st century? As the digital age continues to revolutionize the way we learn, it is essential that academic libraries keep pace with these changes and provide support for students to get access to resources. Two recently published reports highlight the current needs of students and researchers and recommend actions for academic libraries to further support the student learning journey. These reports are:

  • OpenAthens’ recent report, Library user experience: Removing barriers in the Search for Knowledge, based on worldwide research into users’ experiences of their academic libraries.
  • The findings of Technology from Sage’s second Librarian Futures report, The Knowledge Gap Between Librarians and Students, which comprises the findings of a research project contrasting librarian and student perspectives.

In this webinar you’ll hear from:

  • Richard French, Senior Product Manager, OpenAthens
  • David Brisendine, Development Manager, Technology from Sage
  • David Leffler, Discovery and Access Librarian, Jerry Falwell Library, Liberty University
  • Alexis Soard, Associate University Librarian, Systems & Operations, University of Phoenix
  • Two student speakers, Liberty University

Want to find out more about library user experience around the world?

We worked with consultancy firm Digirati to talk in depth to academic library users across the globe about access to digital content. In this report we review the common challenges that users and researchers face and discuss how they could be resolved.

Webinar: Harnessing the Power of Collaboration between Librarians and IT Professionals

24 April 2024 | 3pm GMT | Online

Join us for a roundtable discussion, in partnership with Technology from Sage, as we explore how academic libraries and IT departments can work together to meet the needs of patrons.

As highlighted in Technology from Sage’s latest Librarian Futures report, The Librarian Skills Landscape, librarian confidence in answering patron questions on the use of generative AI in their studies is low. Meanwhile, many librarians see digital literacies as important skills to cultivate in the near-future.

Our librarian speakers will provide valuable insights into how librarians and IT professionals can work together to meet emerging challenges for patrons head on and ultimately strengthen inter-library relationships.

Speakers:

  • Matthew Weldon, Library Patron Consultant, Technology from Sage
  • Adam Snook, Technical Consultant, OpenAthens
  • Craig Amos, Associate Dean of Library Access and Delivery, Broward College
  • Emma Adamson, Director of Learning Services, Learning Services, University of South Wales

Cyber Security Month webinar

#CyberSecMonth

About our webinar

Concerned about misuse of online content? Intentional or unintentional mass downloading of data and content causes huge issues for librarians and their IT teams. If you’re still reliant on IP-based access it could result in the publisher cutting off your entire organization until the incident is properly investigated and resolved.

But with federated single sign-on, solutions such as OpenAthens can help your organization identify the individual(s) responsible so only that one account is suspended or shut down.

In this Cyber Security Month webinar, Trust and Identity CTO Neil Scully outlines the security risks to organizations and publishers if access is provided with no limits or controls. Neil will go on to explain how our team monitors misuse and the benefits to customers.

Speaker

Neil Scully, Trust and Identity CTO, Jisc

Who is it for?

Librarians and their IT teams, licensing managers, providers of online content and services, anyone with an interest in misuse of content.
